Gel Nail Art Tutorial: How to Create Mermaid Nails

If you’re looking for cool nail art ideas, look no further. With this quick Mermaid gel nails tutorial, you can achieve a professional look that’ll last up to two weeks. It combines a candy-pink base coat with an aquatic blue-green scale pattern. You can use acrylics or your natural nails if you prefer.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Sensationail gel nail polish in Heirloom Lilac

Sensational gel nail polish in Pink Chiffon

Sensational gel nail polish in Mostly Mint

Sensational Gel Base & Top coat

An LED lamp to cure your nails between coats

You'll also need...

A buffer

A sponge and dotting tool

A cleanser to finish

STEP ONE: PREPARING YOUR NAILS

To prepare your nails, buff the whole surface of the nail and cleanse.

STEP TWO: APPLYING THE BASE COATS

Apply two coats of Heirloom Lilac. If you're using your natural nails, apply a layer of base coat first. After each coat, cure under the sensational LED lamp. Repeat until you have the perfect coverage.

STEP THREE: CREATING THE MOTTLED EFFECT

Once your base coat is dry, apply blobs of Pink Chiffon and pat gently with a sponge, creating a mottled effect.

Then apply a small dab of Mostly Mint onto a sponge, dab into the nail and cure.

Once your nails are dry, take your dotting tool and apply Mostly Mint in a scale pattern over the nail, like you see in the picture.
