Nail Trends to Watch for this Autumn/Winter 2018
We know that the sun is still shining and Autumn/Winter nail trends are probably the last thing you want to read about. But as the summer gradually draws to an end, we're keeping our eyes on the fashion runways for all the upcoming nail trends and colours.
Shorter Nail Shapes
With previous seasons being about excessively long fingernails, Autumn/Winter 2018 catwalks featured wearable fashion, shorter nails and practical oval tips. Moschino models had manicures designed by Miss Pop, with small half moon detail at the base of the nail — accentuating the centre of the nail rather than a longer tip. Architectural swim and athletic-wear brand Chromat extended their clothing designs to the models’ fingernails, matching colours and styles on nails that were smooth, oval and medium in length. Nudes and warmer tones look great on a shorter length nail. Have a look at our neutral range of colours for more ideas.
Dark and Moody Tones
The upcoming darker days and cloudy skies inspired fashion designers to pick moody colours to match. For New York Fashion Week, Self-Portrait featured Rita Remark wearing a midnight shade of blue similar to SensatioNail’s Blue Yonder. Phillip Lim showed nails in a deep tone of olive, reminding us of our khaki green Force of Nature.
We are all about the high-shine nails and Chrome Nail Powders, so it’s good to see the Autumn catwalks are the same. Christian Siriano’s manicures featured various intricate, geometric designs with a glossy finish. The green-blue holographic nails at the Naeem Khan show were inspired by an insect shell, that the designer found when travelling in Peru! The mani below was created using Express Gel I'm the Black Sheep and Silver Chrome Nail Powder.
The jewel-encrusted nails of Sofia Webster and The Blonds stand out as the most extravagant of Autumn 2018 nail trends. Covered with blinged-out crystals and unexpected accents, lead artist Marian Newman said: "We made nails the new jewellery and a ‘must have’ to finish the overall Sophia look – the nails were the ultimate fashion accessory". Check out our range of Nail Art Accessories and get your bling on!
There was no shortage of colour, pattern and texture at the various Fashion Weeks. Tadashi Shoji’s burgundy nails covered in black fishnet mesh caused quite a stir. Get the look yourself from our range of plums and burgundy colours and Black Rose Nail Stickers. Vivienne Westwood created readable manicures, using a white base coat and black letters to spell out risqué phrases.
Finally, the wine reds are back! The theme of Temperley London’s Autumn/Winter show was ‘Temperley Trailblazers’, focussing on women’s fashion through the 1930s and 1940s. Karen Louise, lead nail technician, said “The nail needed to match...we decided upon a striking splash of deep red paint”. Get the Temperley look with our range of red gel colours.
